The Methodology

Most chronic illnesses, not just Type 2 Diabetes and Obesity, are due to insulin resistance or insulin tolerance. Meaning that over the years, our lifestyle practices have exposed us to frequent and high levels of insulin, which have made our bodies accustomed to it (i.e. tolerant or resistant). Just like with alcohol tolerance, with insulin resistance, we need more and more insulin to get the same result.

Every cell in the body responds directly or indirectly to insulin levels. A little insulin is vital, but too much insulin causes dysfunction in most tissues and organs. Insulin resistance is linked to over 30 conditions, spanning metabolic, cardiovascular, neurological, and reproductive disorders.

Our strategy is to focus on improving insulin sensitivity through education and counseling that supports self-exploration, with the goal of fostering client autonomy.

Our tactics revolve around the levers of Lifestyle Medicine. They are: nutrition, physical activity, sleep, stress management, emotional connection, and substances.

Our method is a 6-week deep dive that develops a partnership between client and practitioner. Clients complete a daily journal and wear a continuous glucose monitor (CGM). Practitioner studies the data collected, learns the client’s history, preferences and practices, and offers at every encounter science-based, up-to-date, client-centered educational content that is relevant to their individual goals and concerns.

4 Meetings 6 weeks:

Week 1 (90-120min): Interview, Assessments, Review of Method, Goals, Journaling, CGM set up. Patient-centered education

Week 2 (60min): Review Journal content and CGM graphs. Reassess plan. Make modifications. Patient-centered education

Week 3 : Experiment independently with what you learned and journal.

Week 4 (60min): Review Journal content and CGM graphs. Reassess plan. Make modifications. Patient-centered education.

Week 5 : Experiment independently with what you learned and journal.

Week 6 (60min) Review Journal content and CGM graphs. Reassess plan. Make modifications. Patient-centered education.
